More than 91,000 Hyundai and Kia vehicles recalled in the US due to fire risk

Specifically, the recalled models include five Hyundai models: the 2023-2024 Palisade, Tucson, Sonata, Elantra and Kona from 2023. The three recalled Kia models are the 2023-2024 Seltos, Soul and Sportage from 2023.

The Korean automaker said the recall is due to a fault in the electronic control unit of the Idle Stop & Go oil pump. This part contains faulty electrical components that could cause the pump to overheat, increasing the risk of fire or explosion.

To fix the problem, Hyundai and Kia dealers in the US will inspect and replace the faulty electronic oil pump controller free of charge starting this month.

In addition, Hyundai and Kia advise customers to avoid parking outside and away from construction sites for safety. If owners detect a burning smell coming from the engine compartment, they should avoid driving and tow the vehicle to the nearest dealer for inspection.

Kia said it had received six complaints about cars overheating, but no accidents or injuries were reported. Hyundai said it had received four similar reports.
