North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said the Korean peninsula has never faced such a high risk of nuclear war as it does now.
KCNA reported on November 22 that in a speech at a military exhibition in Pyongyang (North Korea) on November 21, Mr. Kim Jong-un criticized the US and said that never before have the parties on the Korean peninsula faced such a fierce confrontation that could escalate into a nuclear war as it does now.
Mr. Kim Jong-un added that his previous negotiating experiences with the US further demonstrated what he called Washington's "aggressive and hostile" policy towards Pyongyang.

In his speech, Kim also directed the development and upgrading of North Korea's weapons into "ultra-modern weapons", declaring that he would continue to strengthen defense capabilities to consolidate the country's strategic position. The event called the National Defense Development Exhibition that Kim Jong-un attended on November 21 showcased a variety of strategic and tactical weapons.
The US has not yet responded to Kim Jong-un’s latest statement. The US and South Korea have recently accused North Korea of sending troops to Russia and some units have participated in the conflict in Ukraine. Pyongyang has not directly commented on this information.

During the first term of US President-elect Donald Trump, Mr. Trump and Mr. Kim held three summits in 2018 and 2019. However, this diplomatic effort did not bring any specific results, as the two sides disagreed on North Korea giving up nuclear weapons and the US easing sanctions, according to Reuters.
Mr Trump has long praised his good relationship with Mr Kim. Last month, Mr Trump asserted that it was his relationship with the North Korean leader that prevented the US and North Korea from “almost going to nuclear war”.
