Hong Ly Commune, Vu Thu District, Thai Binh Province currently has nearly 2,000 households growing Sophora japonica trees, with a total area of 284 hectares.

At this time, gardeners in Hong Ly commune are focusing on harvesting the first batch of Sophora japonica flowers of the year. Initial assessment shows that Sophora japonica flower yield is higher than last year, due to the area of mature trees accounting for about 85%.

Sophora japonica growers in Hong Ly commune, Vu Thu district, Thai Binh province carry out the harvesting and preliminary processing of Sophora japonica flowers.

On average, each sao of land planted with Sophora japonica flowers will yield from 100 -130 kg of dried Sophora japonica buds/year, if well cared for, it will yield up to 150 kg/year.

With the current selling price of Sophora japonica flowers from 70,000 VND to 80,000 VND/kg of dried Sophora japonica buds, lower than other years, farmers still earn an average profit of 15 million VND/sao/year.

In addition, people growing locust flowers in Hong Ly commune also intercrop other crops under locust trees to increase their income from 3 million to 5 million VND/sao/year.

To date, in Hong Ly commune, there is no medicinal plant with higher economic value than the locust tree. In recent years, the People's Committee of Hong Ly commune, Vu Thu district, Thai Binh province has allowed people to grow this plant instead of some traditional crops.

But in the process of converting crops, people are not allowed to break the planning ground. However, in order for the locust tree growing profession to develop in Hong Ly commune, it is still necessary to find a stable outlet for product consumption, avoiding the situation of good harvest, low price, and vice versa, from there, locust tree growers can feel secure and stick with the profession.

According to Oriental medicine, Sophora japonica flower buds have a bitter taste, cool properties and are classified into the liver meridian, so they have the effect of clearing heat, cooling the liver, detoxifying, etc. Therefore, Sophora japonica flower buds help sleep better, improve the condition of restlessness, insomnia, light sleep or waking up at night.
