(CLO) China condemned the attack on its consulate in Mandalay city and called on the Myanmar government to make every effort to arrest those who carried out the attack.
At a regular press conference on October 21, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said the explosion that occurred at 5 p.m. on October 18 damaged part of the Chinese Consulate compound in Myanmar. The explosion caused no casualties.

Mr. Lin said China has lodged “solemn representations” with the Myanmar government, calling for a thorough investigation and making every effort to severely punish the criminals according to the law.
The Chinese Consulate has recently reminded all Chinese citizens, enterprises and groups in Myanmar to pay attention to the security situation and take necessary precautions, he added.
The incident happened last week after a wave of anti-China protests on social media in Myanmar, citing China's recent pressure on rebel groups to stop fighting against Myanmar's military government.
China’s pressure on rebel groups to stop fighting has fueled suspicions among Myanmar citizens that China is backing the military government, which has been in turmoil since February 2021 when the military overthrew the civilian government in a coup.
