U23 Vietnam suffered a great loss

(NLDO) - The U23 Vietnam team has not yet played the first match of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Tournament, but it has already suffered a loss of strength due to injuries.

During the training session on the evening of July 16 of the Vietnam U23 team, after an unbalanced landing, striker Nguyen Thanh Nhan suffered a serious injury and had to leave midway.

The player's MRI results showed that his left ankle ligament was damaged and could not recover in time to participate in the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship.

This is not the first time the young striker has missed important matches and tournaments due to injury. Previously, Thanh Nhan had to miss the 2023 Asian Cup Finals, could not compete in the 32nd SEA Games bronze medal match and most recently could not participate in the 2024 AFC U23 Championship Finals.

In order to replenish his squad in time, Coach Kim Sang-sik decided to recall versatile midfielder Le Van Thuan. The Korean coach also expressed his regret and encouraged Thanh Nhan to return home to have the best conditions for treatment and recovery.

Le Van Thuan was born in 2006, is one of the young players who grew up from the Dong A Thanh Hoa training center. In the 2024-2025 season, Van Thuan was promoted to the first team of the Thanh team to compete in the V-League and left many impressions with 16 appearances, scoring 4 goals and contributing 2 assists, thereby receiving the title "Best young player of V-League 2024-2025".

With his impressive performance, Le Van Thuan was called up to the Vietnam U23 team in preparation for the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, the 2026 Asian U23 qualifiers and towards the 33rd SEA Games. However, in the final list of 23 players, Van Thuan did not appear.

Thanh Nhan's unfortunate injury is a very regrettable thing for this player personally, but it opens up an opportunity for the 18-year-old midfielder of Dong A Thanh Hoa to rejoin the team, ready to take on the task of replacing his senior to contribute to the U23 Vietnam shirt at this year's regional tournament.

According to plan, Van Thuan will be in Jakarta on July 18.
