Ukraine is 'untied', Hungary urgently brings air defense system closer, Kiev uses this weapon for the first time to attack Russia

Hungary will install air defense and airspace control systems in its northeastern region, bordering Ukraine, to guard against risks in the event of an escalation of the conflict.

Sputnik news agency quoted Hungarian Defense Minister Kristof Szalay-Bobrovniczky as saying on social media on November 20: "To be ready to deal with anything that may happen, I have ordered the installation of newly equipped airspace surveillance and air defense means with accompanying capabilities in the Northeast."

With these capabilities, Hungary can improve the accuracy of detection in airspace control and reduce the time needed to take action.

According to Mr. Szalay-Bobrovniczky, this measure was taken after Ukraine was allowed to use Western weapons to attack deep into Russian territory and Moscow revised its nuclear doctrine.

At the same time, Budapest still "maintains its position that peace through diplomatic channels is best instead of a military solution".

On the same morning, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban convened the country's Defense Council after Kiev was allowed to use Western long-range weapons to attack Russian territory and Moscow updated its nuclear doctrine.

According to him, the risk of escalation has increased to the maximum and Hungary needs all its diplomatic experience and means in order not to be drawn into the conflict in Ukraine in the future.

Also on November 20, Bloomberg news agency quoted an anonymous Western official as saying that Ukraine had for the first time launched the Storm Shadow long-range missile, manufactured by the UK and supplied to Kiev, into Russian territory.

The Times (UK) newspaper quoted sources from Russian social networks as saying that 12 Storm Shadow missiles were fired at the Kursk region on the Russian border. These sources posted many images showing metal fragments in the village of Marino, Kursk region, with the word Storm Shadow on them.

A spokesman for British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said his office would not comment on the reports.
