Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto arrived in Ukraine on January 29 for talks with senior officials, weeks after Budapest objected to the European Union (EU) providing a 50 billion euro ($54 billion) aid package to Kiev.

Reuters reported that the visit took place a few days before the European Union (EU) Summit, scheduled for February 1, to reach consensus on a financial support package that has been delayed due to Hungary's objections.
Talks between Foreign Minister Szijjarto with his counterpart Dmytro Kuleba and Head of the Presidential Administration Andriy Yermak of Ukraine in the city of Uzhhorod.
On the Telegram messaging app, the Ukrainian President's Office posted a photo of Szijjarto, Kuleba and Yermak with the caption: "A frank and constructive dialogue will improve relations between countries."
Ukraine expressed hope that the 27 EU member states will agree at a summit in Brussels on a four-year aid package that Kiev plans to use to plug this year's budget deficit, as the Eastern European country remains mired in conflict with Russia.
Meanwhile, Hungary was the only EU member state that did not support the aid package at the December 2023 Summit.
