In a Telegram post, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) claimed that the organizers of the plot planned to cause a riot in Kiev on June 30 as a diversion, in order to seize control of the Ukrainian parliament and remove the military- political leadership.

It is unclear how carefully the plot was prepared, or whether the accused had any links to Russia, which has been in conflict with Ukraine for nearly two and a half years.
The SBU said it had identified four suspects, two of whom were taken into custody. The suspects face up to 10 years in prison if convicted. The SBU seized weapons and ammunition, as well as mobile phones, computers and other documents “containing evidence of the crime”.
The Ukrainian prosecutor general's office said the alleged ringleader of the plot "is the head of a non -governmental organization who has experience in participating in pointless provocations".
The suspect rented a hall that can accommodate 2,000 people and was trying to recruit soldiers and armed guards from private companies to “carry out the occupation” of parliament, the prosecutor’s office said. It was not clear whether authorities were looking for any additional suspects.
"To implement the criminal plan, the main organizer associated with a number of accomplices who are representatives of community organizations from Kiev, Dnipro and other regions," the SBU said.
The coup plot comes as Russia has made slow but steady gains on the battlefield in recent months due to Ukraine's dwindling manpower and dependence on Western weapons, as well as uncertainty about future military aid.
