The newspaper quoted a statement from the General Staff of the Ukrainian army as saying: “Ukrainian defense forces successfully attacked the large landing ships Azov and Yamal, a communications center and a number of infrastructure facilities of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Crimea.”

The Ukrainian military statement did not specify how it struck the targets, but a Moscow-backed official in the region reported a major Ukrainian air strike and said Russian air defenses shot down more than 10 missiles over the Crimean port of Sevastopol.

Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Russian-appointed governor of Sevastopol, said on the Telegram messaging app that transport infrastructure in the port of Sevastopol, including passenger ships docked there, had been partially damaged.

“Of the six boats, five had broken windows… The damaged windows will be replaced on the same day, and when restored, they will be put back into service,” Razvozhayev said.

In addition, the Sevastopol head also said that three passenger buses, 13 school buses and one electric bus were among the vehicles damaged in the attacks.

This is the second time in less than half a month that Ukraine has claimed to have attacked Russian warships and military facilities in the Black Sea region. On March 15, Kiev also said its forces had “inflicted certain damage” to two Russian patrol boats in the southwestern Black Sea and destroyed an enemy air defense system.
