On June 23, Kon Tum Provincial People's Court opened the first instance trial of defendant Nguyen Phi Hung (31 years old, residing in Kon Khon village, Po Y commune, Ngoc Hoi district, Kon Tum ) for the crime of illegally transporting drugs.
Nguyen Phi Hung was tried for illegally transporting drugs.
According to the indictment, at about 5:00 p.m. on November 17, 2022, Nguyen Phi Hung driving a motorbike on the concrete road in Dak Tang village, Dak Xu commune (Ngoc Hoi district).
When he reached the banana plantation by the roadside, Hung stopped, picked up a colored plastic bag on the side of the road, then drove towards Highway 40.
At the same time, the Ngoc Hoi District Police task force was patrolling and controlling the above road section. Discovering Hung had suspicious signs, the patrol team immediately asked Hung to stop for inspection. Hung immediately threw the black plastic bag onto the roadside but was restrained and arrested by the task force.
Nguyen Phi Hung confessed that he was transporting heroin for a man (unknown identity and background) from Dak Xu commune to Po Y commune for a fee of 10 million VND. Immediately after that, the working group made a record of Nguyen Phi Hung for illegally transporting drugs and temporarily detained and sealed the evidence according to regulations.
Through examination, the Criminal Techniques Department - Kon Tum Provincial Police concluded that the sample of white powder solid substance sealed in a white paper envelope sent for examination was a drug, heroin weighing more than 346 grams.
At the end of the trial, the panel sentenced defendant Nguyen Phi Hung to 20 years in prison for illegally transporting drugs.
