Why doesn't Microsoft have Windows 9?

According to Tech Unwrapped , with each new version of Windows, Microsoft takes advantage of partially or completely revamping the graphical interface to retain most of the configuration options, with one of them being the Control Panel which has had the same design for over 20 years.

Windows 9 absent due to leadership transition at Microsoft?

With the release of Windows 7, Microsoft introduced a completely new design that was different from Windows XP - the design that people loved for many years. Along with Windows XP, it became one of the most popular operating systems that Microsoft has released to the world .

When Windows 8 came out, Microsoft introduced a completely new design that was different from what Windows had been like since its early versions, with a tiled design that completely changed the way users interacted with the operating system. This led to a lot of criticism from users and forced the company to release Windows 8.1, which reintroduced the classic Start button. This design focused on touchscreen computers, a technology that 11 years after Windows 8 was released, is still not an option for many users.

When everything seemed to point to the next version of Windows being Windows 9, Microsoft released Windows 10. What happened to Windows 9? The reason for skipping this version of Windows has to do with the arrival of Satya Nadella as the head of Microsoft to replace Steve Ballmer.

Microsoft wanted to create the impression that after the change in top management, the company had been completely renewed, and that all the decisions made by Steve Ballmer were in the past and would not be repeated. This change was made a year before the next generation of Windows was released, and the company decided to jump straight to Windows 10. It was a radical change from the previous two versions of Windows 8 and 8.1. As a result, this operating system quickly attracted users before Windows 11 appeared and continued to be highly appreciated.

By moving from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, Microsoft is implying that there is no continuity with a version of Windows that users have little interest in. It’s really more of a marketing strategy than anything else, but it’s enough to grab the attention of users who might have considered not upgrading to Windows 8 and sticking with Windows 7 even though it won’t be supported for much longer. That’s better than completely changing the user experience.
