At least 15 police officers and several civilians, including a priest, were killed in militant attacks on a police station, synagogue and Orthodox church in the Republic of Dagestan, in Russia's North Caucasus region, officials said.
It is known that on June 23, gunmen attacked two Orthodox churches, a synagogue and a police station in two cities, Makhachkala and Derbent.
According to the head of the Republic of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, at least 15 police officers and several civilians, including a priest, were killed in the attacks.
The Russian National Anti-Terrorism Committee reported that authorities had killed five gunmen, while Dagestan authorities put the number at six.
“ At about 6 p.m. Moscow time (10 p.m. Vietnam time) on June 23 in the city of Derbent, unidentified people opened fire with automatic weapons at a synagogue and an Orthodox church. According to preliminary information, one policeman was killed and another was injured. The suspects fled in a white Volkswagen Polo with license plate 921. Police are pursuing them,” Gayan Garieva, head of the press office of the Dagestan Interior Ministry, told Sputnik.

According to the Russian Interior Ministry , in the attack, a synagogue and an Orthodox church were burned.
Russian law enforcement agencies have said that the perpetrators of the attacks in Derbent and Makhachkala were members of an “international terrorist organization.” Authorities have not released further details or evidence to support this claim.
