Vietnam-Australia: Sharing experiences in green transformation, digitalization and emerging technologies

On July 10, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son met with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong within the framework of the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting and related meetings in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

At the meeting, the two sides expressed satisfaction with the positive and substantive development of the Vietnam-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The two sides agreed to coordinate well in preparing for upcoming high-level visits, the 7th Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Vietnam, etc. The two Ministers emphasized the importance of the open and free multilateral trading system based on the common rules of the WTO and agreed to strengthen cooperation in addressing trade barriers, expanding market access and taking advantage of economic mechanisms and free trade agreements of which the two countries are members.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son suggested that the two countries should actively implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on labor in the agricultural sector, discuss towards signing an MOU on the digital economy; Australia should soon increase quotas, expand opportunities for highly skilled Vietnamese workers in areas such as health care, tourism services and IT as well as create favorable conditions for Vietnamese students to study in Australia.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that Vietnam highly appreciates Australia's role, contributions and commitments to the Southeast Asian region.

Minister Penny Wong affirmed that Vietnam is an important partner of Australia in the region and the two sides cooperate closely on regional and international strategic issues; agreed that Australia should increase the sharing of experience and technology with Vietnam on green transformation, building carbon markets, digitalization and emerging technologies.

On the regional and international front, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that Vietnam highly appreciates Australia’s role, contributions and commitments to the Southeast Asian region, including the East Sea issue; and encourages Australia to cooperate more closely with the Mekong Sub-region countries for the sustainable development of the Sub-region. The two sides agreed on an approach that promotes and complies with international law, thereby joining hands to contribute to peace, stability and cooperation in the region and the world.
