Vietnam-Czech Republic towards 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations

During her official visit to the Czech Republic from November 13-16 at the invitation of Prime Minister Petr Fiala, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan held important talks with senior Czech leaders on November 14, contributing to promoting bilateral cooperation as the two countries prepare to celebrate the 75th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations (1950-2025).

During the meeting with President Petr Pavel and talks with Senate Chairman Milos Vystrcil, the two sides emphasized the traditional friendly relations that are developing positively in many fields.

The Czech Republic affirmed that Vietnam is an important partner and potential market in Southeast Asia, saying that 2025, the year the two countries celebrate the 75th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations, is a good opportunity for the two sides to increase the exchange of high-level delegations, bringing the bilateral cooperation to a new level.

Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan affirmed that the Vietnamese people always remember and are grateful for the valuable support and assistance that the Czech people gave Vietnam in the past struggle for independence and national reunification and in the current socio-economic development and international integration; emphasizing that Vietnam always attaches importance to strengthening the traditional friendship with the Czech Republic, Vietnam's leading partner in Central and Eastern Europe.

Regarding economic cooperation, the two sides agreed to continue effectively implementing the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA). The Vice President asked the Czech Republic to support the remaining EU countries in promptly ratifying the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement and urge the European Commission (EC) to remove the IUU Yellow Card for Vietnamese seafood exports.

The two sides noted that many Czech enterprises are interested in expanding their investment in Vietnam, typically the Skoda Group is building an automobile manufacturing plant in Quang Ninh. Vietnam is also promoting digital transformation, green transformation and climate change response, creating new opportunities for Czech enterprises.

Regarding labor and education, the Vice President suggested that the Czech side consider signing a labor cooperation agreement between the two governments, facilitating the issuance of visas for Vietnamese citizens to study and travel in the Czech Republic.

In addition, the two sides agreed to further promote cooperation in other traditional pillars such as science and technology, national defense and security, culture, and tourism, including researching the opening of direct flights between the two countries and promoting people-to-people exchanges.

The two sides highly appreciated the role of the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic, with about 100,000 people, which has been recognized as the 14th ethnic minority of the Czech Republic. The Vietnamese community actively contributes to the local economy and society and is a bridge of friendship between the two countries.

On international issues, the two sides agreed to continue to coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums, affirming the importance of maintaining peace, stability and resolving disputes by peaceful means, in accordance with the United Nations Charter and international law.

Previously, according to a VNA reporter in Prague, on the afternoon of November 13, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan had important bilateral meetings with Vice President of the Czech-Vietnamese Friendship Association Jaroslav Vitek and Vice President of the Czech-Moravian Communist Party Petr Simunek.

At the meeting with Vice President of the Czech-Vietnamese Friendship Association Jaroslav Vitek, the Vice President emphasized that the Vietnamese people always remember the support and assistance that the Czech people gave Vietnam in the past struggle for independence and in the current national development.

The Vice President recalled many typical works of Vietnam-Czech friendship such as the Vietnam-Czech Friendship Hospital, the Vietnam-Czech Friendship Cultural Palace and the Hanoi Children's Cultural Palace, the Vietnam-Czech Lock Factory, etc.

Vice President of the Czech-Vietnamese Friendship Association Jaroslav Vitek highly appreciated Vietnam's development achievements and affirmed the Association's role in promoting bilateral relations, especially efforts to promote the recognition of the Vietnamese community as an ethnic group in the Czech Republic.

On the same day, the Vice President received Vice President of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia – Moravia Petr Simunek. The Vice President conveyed General Secretary To Lam’s greetings and congratulations to the leaders of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia – Moravia, thanked the State, people and the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia – Moravia for always providing valuable support and assistance to Vietnam, and suggested that the two Parties increase the exchange of information, theory and practice.

Vice President Petr Simunek conveyed the best wishes and greetings from President of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and Moravia Katerina Konecna to General Secretary To Lam and other leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam; expressed his impression of Vietnam's development achievements and pledged to continue promoting the friendship and cooperation between the two Parties and countries to develop more deeply and widely for the benefit of the people of both countries.
