(NLDO) - Vietnam drops 5 ranks, ranked in the group with the lowest English proficiency in the world.
On the morning of November 13, Education First (EF) announced the 2024 Global English Proficiency Index (EPI) after analyzing the test results of 2.1 million non-English proficient people from 116 countries and territories. This is a prestigious assessment and ranking report in the world published annually since 2011, covering more than 100 countries and territories.
This year's test takers were 18 years and older, and came from 116 countries and territories around the world. The average age of the global sample was 26 years old.
In 2024, Vietnam ranked 63/116 with 498 points, in the group with low English proficiency. With this result, Vietnam has dropped 5 places compared to 2023. It is known that Vietnam achieved the best result in 2019, ranked 52.
The world's leading position belongs to the Netherlands with 636 points, the lowest position is Yemen with 394 points. Singapore is the only country from Asia in the top 9 countries with very high English proficiency.
According to analysis from the EPI 2024, English proficiency is declining worldwide, with men having better English proficiency than women, young people of working age having better English proficiency than students and adults over 40.
The 2024 Global English Proficiency Index rankings were released on the morning of November 13.
In Asia alone, Vietnam ranked 8th (498 points), after Singapore (609 points), Philippines (570 points), Malaysia (566 points), Hong Kong - China (549 points), South Korea (523 points), Nepal (512 points) and Bangladesh (500 points).
