The World Pig Veterinary Conference is expected to gather 3,000 attendees and delegates from many continents, including scientists , leading experts, managers and businesses in the field of livestock and veterinary medicine.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry - the country's leading training and research institution in the fields of agriculture , animal husbandry and veterinary medicine - is the unit assigned to represent the conference organizing committee.

Sharing with Tuoi Tre Online on the sidelines of the meeting with sponsors on July 25, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Tat Toan - President of Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry - said that Vietnam being chosen as the host country of IPVS 2026 is a great honor for the domestic livestock and veterinary industry.

"This is a valuable opportunity for us to introduce Vietnam's achievements and potential in the pig farming industry, while strengthening deep connections with the international scientific and business community," Mr. Toan shared.

According to Mr. Toan, to win the right to host the conference, the school had to prepare a detailed and comprehensive organization plan, and present it directly to the Council of the World Veterinary Association (WVA). The plan includes all important stages such as scientific organization, logistics, finance, and connecting partners, accompanying businesses, etc.

"The WVA Council has carefully evaluated our organizational capacity and decided to choose Vietnam based on the feasibility, professionalism and commitment to international integration clearly demonstrated in the project," said Mr. Toan.

Vietnam currently ranks 5th in the world in terms of total pig herd, with the pig farming industry having developed strongly over the past decades. According to Mr. Toan, hosting the IPVS Conference has long been the dream of many generations of experts, scientists and veterinary workers in the country.

The IPVS 2026 Conference is expected to become the largest event ever in the field of animal husbandry and veterinary medicine in Vietnam.

"This is a unique opportunity to promote the connection between three parties: scientists - managers - businesses, thereby creating momentum for the development of the pork industry in a modern and sustainable direction. We expect IPVS 2026 to spread the image of a dynamic, integrated and responsible Vietnam with global agricultural issues," Mr. Toan shared.

Founded in 1967, the International Pig Veterinary Society (IPVS) held its first conference in Cambridge, UK, in 1969. Since then, IPVS has been held every two years and is the world's largest forum dedicated to pig farming.

The 27th conference will take place in Germany in June 2024, before Vietnam takes over as host in 2026.
