The case of university degree dispute: Degree granted to student

On March 9, Mr. Tran Ba Tien, Vice Principal of Vinh University (Nghe An province), confirmed that today he awarded graduation certificates to 28 students of the 2018 joint-college journalism class, in conjunction with Tay Nguyen Polytechnic College ( Dak Lak ).

Vinh University has awarded graduation certificates to students of Journalism class K59.

Mr. Tien said that the reason for the delay in granting the degree for more than 3 years was because the school had to review the conditions, ensure the quality, ensure the output of the training program and ask for the opinion of the Ministry of Education and Training so that everything was in accordance with regulations.

Previously, when working with SGGP Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Thai Binh , Principal of Tay Nguyen Polytechnic College, said that the school was only responsible for facilities, while training belonged to Vinh University, so he refused to provide information.

In response to this answer, a leader of the Department of Education and Training of Dak Lak province said that this was an irresponsible answer because the Polytechnic College is the unit responsible for recruiting students and therefore must be responsible for granting degrees to students. "The Department is checking and reviewing all training cooperation of the Tay Nguyen Polytechnic College," the leader of the Department of Education and Training of Dak Lak province added.

As reported by SGGP, in 2018, Tay Nguyen Polytechnic College collaborated with Vinh University to open a Journalism major, training from college to university, with a work-study program. Class K59 had nearly 30 students participating. By the end of January 2021, the school had organized graduation exams for students. However, the school then delayed the issuance of graduation certificates for nearly 3 years, causing students to be disadvantaged in their jobs.
