According to AFP, the WHO declared a state of emergency on August 14 to deal with the increase in cases of the new Clade 1b monkeypox strain in the Democratic Republic of Congo and its spread to neighboring countries. This year, the new monkeypox strain and other strains have been recorded in 80 countries, including 19 in Africa.
