In this event, the Vietnamese shooting team participated with two groups: Pham Quang Huy, Trinh Thu Vinh and Lai Cong Minh, Nguyen Thuy Trang. However, only the duo Pham Quang Huy and Trinh Thu Vinh entered the final (580 points), while Cong Minh and Thuy Trang ranked 19th out of 24 with a total score of 563 points.
In the final, two Vietnamese shooters competed for the gold medal with two Indian athletes, Sangwan Rhythm and Cheema Arjun Singh.
Continuously taking the lead, Quang Huy and Thu Vinh were then reduced to 11-15 by their opponents, but scored the decisive point to win the final 16-11, winning the gold medal.
The 2024 Asian Shooting Championships are considered as qualifying rounds for the Paris Olympics, but only individual events are counted. Therefore, despite winning the gold medal, 19th Asian Games champion Pham Quang Huy still cannot participate in the Olympics. He will continue to compete in the qualifying round next April.
Meanwhile, Trinh Thu Vinh is the first athlete of the shooting team as well as the Vietnamese sports team to have a ticket to the Olympics.
The 2024 Asian Shooting Championship will take place in Indonesia from January 4 to January 18. The Vietnamese shooting team will participate in the tournament with 11 athletes including: Trinh Thu Vinh, Nguyen Thuy Trang (women's pistol), Pham Quang Huy, Lai Cong Minh, Phan Cong Minh, Ha Minh Thanh, Vu Tien Nam, Phan Xuan Chuyen (men's pistol), Le Thi Mong Tuyen, Phi Thanh Thao, Nguyen Thi Thao (women's rifle). The head coach is Mr. Park Chung Gun (Korea).
