(NLDO) - Every December, Cho Lon area (HCMC) is bustling with images of lion and dragon dances "opening the eyes" on Tet holiday.


During the last days of the lunar year, a series of lion and dragon dance troupes gather at Thien Hau Pagoda, a famous Chinese place in Ho Chi Minh City. Here, the artists will perform the "Khai quang diem nhan" ceremony, an important ritual for the mascots, bringing luck and fortune to the community.

On the morning of December 29, dozens of lion and dragon dance troupes gathered at Thien Hau Pagoda (District 5) to perform the "opening of the eyes" ceremony.

"The act of opening the eyes is to give the lion a more lively soul," said Chau Liem, a lion and dragon dancer.

Through this ritual, people believe that the mascot will become a symbol of luck, fortune and strength, bringing good things to the community. The ritual is also an opportunity for everyone to pray together, sending good wishes for a peaceful and prosperous new year.

After the ceremony, the lion dance troupes will parade through the streets of Cho Lon. The sound of drums and gongs combined with the graceful dances of the artists create a bustling and vibrant atmosphere.
