In a document sent to the Civil Aviation Authority, the Ministry of Transport (MOT) said that in order to minimize the impact on passengers, the Ministry requested the Civil Aviation Authority to direct airlines to urgently research, develop plans for operations, and add aircraft to ensure and maintain the transport force, especially during the April 30 and May 1 holidays and the upcoming summer peak period. Flight delays and cancellations need to be limited in the coming time.
Airlines can be fined if they increase ticket prices illegally.
The Civil Aviation Authority needs to support and encourage airlines to increase their operating capacity to meet people's travel needs and propose solutions to remove difficulties.
Airlines must strictly fulfill their obligations as carriers to passengers according to the provisions of law. At the same time, they must strengthen inspection of transportation activities, passenger services, ticket sales, price declaration, price posting, and public information on airfares, and prevent illegal price increases. They must promptly direct, rectify, and handle violations.
The directive document of the Ministry of Transport was issued in the context that a number of domestic airlines are in the process of restructuring, returning aircraft, and cutting operations.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said that in September 2023, the manufacturer Pratt & Whitney (PW) announced the recall of the PW1100 engine. In Vietnam, this type of engine is used on some A321NEO aircraft operated by Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air.
Bamboo Airways also stopped operating its Embraer E190 fleet (3 aircraft) and stopped operating routes using this type of aircraft including Hanoi-Hue/Dong Hoi/Con Dao and Ho Chi Minh City-Dong Hoi/Con Dao.
Statistics show that the current fleet of domestic airlines is 213 aircraft, a decrease of 18 aircraft compared to 2023. Of which, the number of aircraft in operation fluctuates between 165-170, a decrease of about 40-50 aircraft compared to the average in 2023.
The above issues are forecast to directly impact the transport force, fleet size and capacity on domestic and international routes in 2024 and 2025.
