The new geopolitical situation has sparked interest in the BRICS group of emerging economies. There are now about 30 countries interested in joining the group.

This was shared by the CEO of the Russian National Committee for BRICS Studies Georgiy Toloraya with Sputnik news agency.
“To be honest, the new members joining BRICS have given the association a boost. After the first decade of its existence, the group began to gain momentum and reached what can be called a stable level,” Mr. Toloraya stressed.
The new geopolitical situation, the beginning of open conflicts between the West and part of the non-Western world , aroused interest in BRICS, to the point that many countries wanted to join it.
According to Mr. Toloraya, there are currently 30 countries waiting in line to join the group.
“Currently the mouthpiece for the interests of the global majority, BRICS must now begin to transform into a platform for creating a new global economic and political system,” he argued.
Accordingly, despite the fact that BRICS was created as a counterweight to the West, the organization cannot be considered an anti-Western alliance.
"In principle, BRICS does not exclude the admission of Western countries, but must comply with the association's own conditions, as members, not as a dominant force," he affirmed.
BRICS was founded in 2009 with 5 countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
In January 2024, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) joined the group.
