An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) crashed and fell out of control during a daytime fireworks display by famous artist Cai Guoqiang in Quanzhou, Fujian Province, China on the afternoon of December 8.

The witness said the incident happened about 10 minutes after the show started. “At first, we thought it was part of the show. When I saw more and more UAVs falling, I felt something was wrong and ran back,” the witness said.
"Thinking back now, I'm still scared. The UAVs seemed to lose control before the incident happened. At one point, they flew closer and were only about 10 meters away from the viewers," the witness added.

The show involved 2,000 UAVs and an estimated 600 crashed. No one was injured in the incident. The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
According to public information, the party responsible for deploying the UAV operation is Yifei Intelligent Control Technology Co., Ltd. (Tianjin). A company representative said: "It is not convenient to disclose the specific details of the incident at this time."
Witnesses said the wind was very strong at the scene that day. From a professional perspective, UAV performances can be affected by many factors such as weather conditions, signal interference, equipment failures and errors in program settings.
