A Chateraise factory

The Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper on June 17 reported on the situation of a group of Vietnamese workers who signed contracts with Chateraise and were granted work visas in Japan.

Accordingly, these Vietnamese workers should have been assigned jobs as early as February at the company's new factory in Yamanashi Prefecture. However, the factory opening was postponed, forcing them to wait an average of two and a half months without receiving any allowances.

After the Japanese press reported the news, Chateraise representatives said they would arrange work for them from June 19 and pay allowances in early July.

According to Kyodo News Agency, some workers in the affected group have started going to work.

Chateraise acknowledged that it had caused inconvenience and concern to foreign workers in the past. The company promised to prevent similar situations from happening again in the future.

The Vietnamese workers mentioned came to Japan under visas issued to workers with specific skills, under a mechanism established by the Tokyo government in 2019 to attract more foreign workers to work in the country.

A total of 12 occupations are covered by this visa, including construction, nursing care, and food and beverage manufacturing.

Kyodo said there are currently about 200,000 foreign workers working in Japan under this type of visa.
