According to 4gnews , in a report related to the Apple M3 processor generation and its upcoming variants, Mr. Gurman said that the M3 Ultra will be present inside the Mac Studio and Mac Pro if "Apple continues to produce them". This information has sounded alarm bells in the market and specifically mentioned the future of the Mac Pro.
The power gap between Mac Studio and Mac Pro is getting narrower
The truth is that the transition to Apple Silicon has cast doubt on the role of the Mac Pro in the company’s product line. With the same processor as the Mac Studio, the lines between the two products are pretty thin, except for price.
The modular design has always been a highlight of previous generations of the Mac Pro, but it's gone with the M2 Ultra. Having a chip that includes several integrated components has severely limited the long-term options for buyers of this computer. As a result, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Mac Pro disappear once the Mac Studio cannibalizes Mac Pro sales.
Now, when looking at the new generation of M3 processors, there are a few notable details. Starting with the base chip, which is expected to have 8 CPU cores and 10 GPU cores, it will be available in the 13-inch MacBook Pro, 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air, Mac mini, and iMac. As for the M3 Pro, the chip will have 12 or 14 CPU cores combined with 18 or 20 GPU cores. This can be found in the Mac mini, 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro.
Another variant of the M3, the M3 Max, with 16 CPU cores and 32 or 40 GPU cores, is expected to come to the base Mac Studio, 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros.
