The rare incident of an airplane landing gear wheel falling off occurred at noon on March 7 at San Francisco International Airport (California, USA).
Wheel falls off United Airlines Boeing 777-200
ABC News quoted the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as saying that United Airlines Flight 35 had just taken off a few seconds before the wheel fell off.
Footage captured by Cali Planes shows the wheel falling off the landing gear just seconds after takeoff.
The wheels landed in the airport employee parking lot, severely damaging at least one vehicle. No one was injured and the airport runway was temporarily closed while crews cleared the debris.

The plane, which was en route to Japan, was diverted and landed at Los Angeles International Airport. There were 235 passengers, 10 flight attendants and 4 pilots on board at the time of the incident.
"We are grateful to the pilots and flight attendants for their professionalism in managing this situation. We are also grateful to the ground crew who were waiting with a tow truck to remove the aircraft as soon as it landed and the airport crew who assisted passengers," United Airlines said in a statement.

The airline said it will work with the owners of cars damaged at San Francisco airport to resolve the damages.
The United Airlines Boeing 777-200 has two main landing gears in the center of the fuselage with a total of 12 wheels. "The aircraft is designed to land safely even if a wheel is lost or damaged," the airline said.
The FAA said it would investigate the incident. The airline arranged a new plane to take the passengers to Japan that evening.
