Speaking at the opening of the discussion, Mr. Nguyen Duc Hien, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper, said that since 2017, Vietnam has been given a yellow card by the European Commission (EC) for its seafood industry. Since then, Vietnam has suffered billions of dollars in losses due to export restrictions.

Currently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, together with relevant ministries and sectors, is in the process of drafting and amending Decrees guiding the implementation of the Fisheries Law, policies to support the development of fishing vessels and career conversion. At the same time, additional tools and means will be provided on fishing vessels to monitor fishing, enhancing the effectiveness of law enforcement at sea.
The program is an open forum for central and local agencies, experts, researchers, organizations and interested individuals to discuss legal practices and law enforcement on fishing activities of fishermen, especially from the actual case in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province.

At the seminar, the Organizing Committee of the program “Lighting up the sea with fishermen” awarded scholarships worth 2 million VND to 30 students who are children of fishermen and have good academic achievements. The program also gave gifts to 200 fishermen in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province.
The gift set includes a battery pack + LED light and a waterproof medicine bag worth four million VND; a life jacket and a handbook “Things to know about fishing” edited by Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper with a lot of necessary legal knowledge for fishermen.
