Master, Doctor Bui Van Quang, Center for Andrology, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital said: The patient came to the hospital at the 12th hour after the injury, the doctors promptly sutured the corpus cavernosum and corpus spongiosum, and shaped the scrotal skin to cover both testicles.
After 2 days of surgery, the penis was preserved pink, well-perfused, the incision was dry, had little fluid, and showed no signs of infection. The patient was regularly examined by the doctor after surgery, and given a treatment regimen to monitor erectile recovery later.
Dr. Bui Van Quang warned that this is a rare incident, but it leaves behind a complex, crushed wound, making it difficult to treat and preserve the severed penis. In the case of a completely severed penis, the patient needs to wrap the severed penis in a clean plastic bag or box, ensuring as much sterility as possible. This part of the penis should be soaked in 0.9% saline and kept in ice, then quickly go to a urologist to perform penile reattachment surgery. Note that the patient should not soak the penis directly in ice because this can cause tissue damage.
