(Dan Tri) - Doctors at Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital have just promptly treated a 15-year-old girl who was bitten on the heel by a bamboo viper.

On November 28, Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital informed that the hospital's doctors had just treated a child patient with acute poisoning due to a venomous snake bite.

Previously, on November 21, patient NTTA (15 years old), Dong Thang commune, Trieu Son district, went behind the house and was bitten by a snake on his left heel.

However, the family did not take the child to the hospital but applied leaves. When symptoms of swelling and pain appeared, the family transferred the child to Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital for treatment.

The patient was admitted to the hospital with a snake bite on his left heel, swelling, bruising around it, and blood clotting disorder. According to his family, the patient was bitten by a bamboo viper.

Immediately, the doctors of the Emergency Resuscitation Department performed first aid, immobilized, bandaged, cleaned, disinfected the bite site, and administered antivenom serum for the bamboo viper. After 4 days of treatment, the patient's condition improved significantly, and test results were stable.

Every year, the Emergency Department of Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital receives many patients with very serious conditions of acute poisoning due to venomous snake bites from many different types of snakes (cobras, vipers, kraits) occurring sporadically throughout the year.

Doctors recommend that when bitten by a snake, whether it is a common snake or a venomous snake, the patient must remain calm and not panic. It is necessary to limit movement of the limbs, especially in the area bitten by the snake because the venom can enter the body and spread quickly.

In addition, the victim should immediately remove jewelry from the bitten hand or foot to avoid swelling. Apply immobilizing bandages to some species of cobras, but do not apply bandages when bitten by a viper.

After first aid, the victim must be taken immediately to the nearest medical facility for treatment, to avoid missing the "golden time" that could endanger their life.
