Deputy Minister Le Cong Thanh highly appreciated Belarus's interest in the field of domestic solid waste treatment in Vietnam. The Deputy Minister informed that currently, Vietnam generates about 60,000 tons of domestic solid waste every day, of which urban waste accounts for about 60%.

To manage domestic solid waste, the Law on Environmental Protection 2020 has provided regulations on waste classification, collection, and treatment. Currently, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is developing technical and economic norms for solid waste treatment.

Considering the actual situation, in the condition that the urban infrastructure system is not yet synchronized; the level and capacity of management do not meet the development needs of urbanization, the pressure on domestic waste treatment is increasing; the Deputy Minister informed that Vietnam wants to implement measures to treat domestic solid waste using modern technology, meeting environmental standards to gradually replace landfill measures and outdated technology.

“Vietnam and Belarus cooperating in technology transfer in solid waste treatment is an appropriate approach to the long-term relationship between the two countries,” the Deputy Minister affirmed./.
