Thanh Nien 's records on the afternoon of July 31 showed that in the archaeological area, many areas were dug nearly 1 meter underground. Through that, many pieces of porcelain, bricks, etc. were discovered and collected, and traces of the old foundation of Can Chanh Palace began to appear.

Archaeological team digs the foundation of Can Chanh Palace

To date, the archaeological excavation of Can Chanh Palace has been going on for more than 20 days, led by the Vietnam National Museum of History in coordination with the Hue Monuments Conservation Center. The archaeological work will last until the end of this week, covering an area of over 200 square meters.

A representative of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center said that the archaeological excavation of Can Chanh Palace is an important basis for developing a plan for the restoration and rehabilitation of the monument. During the excavation and archaeological excavation process, the Center will continue to compile images and documents about Can Chanh Palace from many archives, including photos taken by the French when the palace was still intact.

Artifacts recovered

Previously, the project to renovate, restore and embellish Can Chanh Palace was approved in principle by the 8th term People's Council of Thua Thien-Hue province (term 2021 - 2026), with an investment of nearly 200 billion VND.

Can Chanh Palace was built in the early period of the Nguyen Dynasty - the 3rd year of Gia Long (1804), and is one of the 3 important palaces of Hue Imperial City.

The project is located on the sacred axis of Hue Imperial City, along with important projects such as: Ngo Mon, Thai Hoa Palace, Dai Cung Mon, Can Thanh Palace, Khon Thai Palace, Kien Trung Palace... Under the Nguyen Dynasty, Can Chanh Palace was the workplace of the kings and the place where important parties and ceremonies were held. In 1947, due to the war, this relic was completely destroyed, only the foundation remained.

According to royal architecture researchers, the palace consists of two connected buildings placed on the same foundation. The scale of Can Chanh Palace is not inferior to that of the palaces of many dynasties in the Asian region.
