Ulreich's 6-year-old son passed away after a long illness.

The announcement was posted by Ulreich on his personal page, leaving football fans shocked and heartbroken. Baby Len, born in November 2018, three years after Ulreich moved to Bayern from Stuttgart. The boy passed away last June.

The 36-year-old goalkeeper wrote: "It is with deep sadness that we announce that our son Len passed away a few weeks ago after a long illness. This announcement is difficult, but it is a necessary step for the family to regain balance and clarity in their lives."

Ulreich said he and his wife Lisa and daughter are trying to move on from day to day. At the same time, he expressed his deep gratitude to his family, friends and Bayern Munich for their understanding and silent support during this difficult time.

"We ask that the public and media respect our family's privacy and do not send any further questions or interview requests," the Ulreichs' message concluded.

Following the announcement, Ulreich disabled comments on the post to protect the privacy of his family. However, many condolences flooded social media with deep sympathy for the German goalkeeper.

Ulreich is Bayern's second-choice goalkeeper behind Manuel Neuer. He has played 103 games for the "Gray Tigers", winning 9 Bundesliga titles, 3 DFB-Pokals, 6 German Super Cups, as well as the Champions League and European Super Cup. A few weeks ago, he extended his contract for another year.
