According to Deputy Minister Bui Hoang Phuong, nowadays, students are often exposed to the internet, email, and social networks, so taking the time to write a letter and express their thoughts in neat handwriting on a piece of paper is a very meaningful act.

Moreover, these letters have a profound impact on students, the young generation, when they put their own thoughts on international issues of concern, to speak up for the young generation and offer solutions to solve these problems.

According to Deputy Minister Bui Hoang Phuong, every year, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) often chooses a prominent issue, a global and humane issue to propose the theme of the competition. The 54th UPU International Letter Writing Competition in 2025 has the theme: “Imagine you are the ocean. Write a letter to someone, explaining why and how they should take good care of you and protect you.”

Announcing the rules and technical instructions for writing a letter in the correct format, journalist Do Thi Thanh Binh, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Young Pioneers and Children Newspaper, informed: Participants are Vietnamese students from 9 to 15 years old (at the time of sending the letter to the contest).

The entry letter is a creative product of the individual student, written in prose form on the theme of the contest (not yet published in newspapers or books), no longer than 800 words. Entries written in a foreign language must be accompanied by a Vietnamese translation. The jury will judge according to the Vietnamese version. The entry letter must be presented clearly, neatly, and handwritten on one side of the paper...
