The Ministry of Health maintains monitoring of Covid-19 cases to assess epidemic trends.

Previously, monitoring results showed that in the last week of August, the whole country recorded 256 new Covid-19 cases (an increase of 8% compared to the previous week).

A preventive medicine expert said that the number of cases recorded in recent months is low compared to the peak period, but the Covid-19 case surveillance system still needs to be maintained and closely monitored to assess the epidemic trend, thereby having appropriate responses. The reason is that the virus causing the Covid-19 epidemic has the characteristic of constantly changing, and the epidemic is unpredictable.

Vietnam maintains monitoring and assessment of Covid-19 epidemic trends

Currently, the World Health Organization (WHO) assesses the Omicron EG.5 sub-variant as a variant of concern and could create a new wave of infection.

Previously, on May 5, WHO announced that the Covid-19 epidemic was no longer a public health emergency of global concern, but that does not mean that Covid-19 is no longer a threat or that Covid-19 is less dangerous.

According to the Ministry of Health , the country needs to continue to proactively take measures to prevent and control the epidemic; do not be subjective, negligent, or lose vigilance. The Institutes of Hygiene and Epidemiology, Pasteur and hospitals under the Ministry of Health maintain sampling and gene sequencing to promptly detect new variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, promptly reporting to the Ministry of Health when new variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus are detected.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Vietnam has had 11,623,056 Covid-19 cases, ranking 13th out of 231 countries and territories. With a rate of 117,460 cases/million people, Vietnam ranks 120th out of 231 countries and territories.

On September 6, 17 Covid-19 patients were announced to have recovered from the disease. Since the beginning of the epidemic, more than 10.64 million Covid-19 patients in Vietnam have been cured.

Currently, there are no severe Covid-19 patients requiring oxygen. For many weeks, there have been no deaths due to Covid-19 in the country. The total number of deaths due to Covid-19 in Vietnam since the beginning of the epidemic is 43,206, accounting for 0.4% of the total number of infections. The total number of deaths ranks 26th out of 231 territories.

Regarding Covid-19 vaccination, the Ministry of Health said that a total of more than 266.532 million doses have been administered to people nationwide. Of which, the number of doses administered to people aged 18 and over is more than 223.84 million; the number of doses administered to children aged 12-17 is nearly 24 million; the number of doses administered to children aged 5-11 is more than 18.72 million.
