Regarding this issue, Ms. Chu Thi Thu Thuy, Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine (Department of Agriculture and Environment) said: In pig farming, the treatment of waste and leftover food from pigs arising during the farming process is difficult, and the treatment of odors is even more difficult. And in reality, the current on-site production in Quang Ninh only meets nearly 40%, which means supplying about 800 pigs/day. Therefore, the increase in the number and scale of pig farming projects in the area must still be raised. However, the technology of that project and the actual farming process must be taken into account by our professional unit, in order to ensure that adverse impacts on the environment are minimized.
Over the past years, Quang Ninh has had many units operating pig farming using advanced technology, gradually overcoming the shortcomings in pig farming activities, such as Minh Chau Company Limited, Thien Thuan Tuong Mineral Exploitation Joint Stock Company, Binh Khe Ward concentrated farming area... Most recently, there is the pig farming project of Green Teach Livestock Joint Stock Company in Duong Hoa Commune.
Mr. Nguyen Van Duc, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, said: While Minh Chau Company Limited raises pigs in cold houses, focusing on controlling input sources to reduce the risk of disease, Thien Thuan Tuong Mineral Exploitation Joint Stock Company focuses on raising pigs in harmony with nature. This is a science and technology enterprise, specializing in preserving and developing original pig breeds. Thien Thuan Tuong's current farming scale is 600 sows, 6,000 commercial pigs/year; the farming technology is partly automatic (silo technology) for feeding and cleaning barns, the rest is semi-wild grazing, suitable for native pig breeds. With this technology, it is not possible to completely prevent sources of emissions into the environment. However, thanks to the large, airy farming area, isolated from residential areas, Thien Thuan Tuong is still assessed by Quang Ninh's professional units as having the best farming technology and process in the area today.
In fact, in livestock farming in general, and pig farming in particular, the farming process often poses a risk of negative impacts on the environment if the amount of waste, wastewater, and leftover food is not treated with appropriate technology, or if there is technology but the operation process is not effective. Therefore, in order to meet the environmental requirements for new investment projects in the field of pig farming, Mr. Tran Hoa, Director of Thien Thuan Tuong Mineral Exploitation Joint Stock Company, directly visited and learned many modern pig farming models in the world . Most recently, he consulted the pig farming model on high-rise buildings, in residential areas in Guangxi (China).
Mr. Tran Hoa said: This is a 17-storey farm, each floor is a row of barns, going up and down the floors by elevator, observing by camera system, feeding and cleaning, waste treatment by automatic machinery system, detecting diseases by controlling the temperature of pigs... In this model, in the current context, we can apply and upgrade more in some stages, such as entering and exiting by separate roads, automatic feeding and waste treatment, raising animals in cold barns...
It can be seen that with over 1.4 million people and nearly 20 million tourists each year, the demand for food consumption, especially pork in Quang Ninh is very large, about 2,000-2,400 pigs/day, up to 3,000 pigs/day on holidays and Tet, while the current supply in the province only meets about 40%. Along with the potential for exporting meat to China thanks to its geographical advantage, Quang Ninh is becoming an attractive destination for investors in the field of pig farming. However, in attracting investment, the authorities need to clearly identify: Application of modern technology is the core criterion in appraising and selecting investment projects.
