Earlier this week, 77 Nobel laureates in medicine, chemistry, physics, and economics sent an open letter to the U.S. Senate, calling for the rejection of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS).
Kennedy Jr. was an independent presidential candidate but later withdrew and endorsed Donald Trump. In the letter, the Nobel laureates said Kennedy Jr. lacked credibility and experience, was opposed to many vaccines and drugs that have been proven effective, and was opposed to the prestigious agencies of HHS.

Several other Trump nominees have also been controversial, including former Congressman Matt Gaetz, who withdrew from consideration for attorney general after being accused of having sex with an underage girl. On December 9, several Trump nominees traveled to Capitol Hill to meet with Republican senators to share their views ahead of their confirmation hearings next month.
According to ABC News, with the Republican Party taking control of the Senate next year with 53/100 seats, Mr. Trump's nominations will have an easier time being approved as they only need 51 votes in favor.
