Providing information on the progress of the city's key transport projects at the press conference for the second quarter of 2025, organized by the Can Tho City People's Committee on the afternoon of July 30, Director of the Can Tho City Department of Construction Mai Van Tan said that the city is resolutely implementing key transport projects to complete infrastructure, create momentum to promote socio -economic development, create a foundation for Can Tho to develop sustainably, maintain its role as the center of the Mekong Delta region, and meet people's expectations in the journey to build a civilized and modern urban area.

Specifically, the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway Construction Investment Project Phase 1, the section through Can Tho City, includes 3 projects: Component Project 2 (through the old Can Tho City), Component Project 3 (through the old Hau Giang Province), Component Project 4 (through the old Soc Trang Province) with a length of more than 132 km, the starting point connects with Component Project 1 at Km57+200 in Thanh Quoi Commune, Can Tho City, the end point intersects with the Nam Song Hau National Highway and the road leading to Tran De Port (planned), with a total investment of 31,287 billion VND.
Up to now, the implementation volume of Component Project 2 has reached about 40.9%; Component Project 3 has reached 46.6%; Component Project 4 has reached 39.37%.
In addition to organizing construction in "3 shifts and 4 teams", contractors have continued to increase human resources, equipment, and materials, and have organized more construction teams to deploy in accordance with actual conditions, especially taking advantage of favorable weather to further accelerate construction progress, speed up acceptance procedures, and pay for completed volume in accordance with legal regulations to successfully complete disbursement work.
One of the key projects expected to make a big change to Can Tho's transportation system is the National Highway 91 Upgrade and Expansion Project (section from Km0 - Km7). This is a Group A project, a level II traffic project, with a total investment of more than 7,240 billion VND, from the central and local budgets. When completed, the project will help synchronize the entire National Highway 91 route passing through Can Tho City, contributing to convenient connection between the Southwest region with Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces.
Currently, the investor has completed the selection of contractors, negotiated and signed contracts, and is expected to start construction in the third quarter of 2025.

Along with National Highway 91, the Can Tho City Western Ring Road Project (connecting National Highway 91 to National Highway 61C, with a total length of 19.2 km2; total investment of about 3,837.74 billion VND) is also being focused on by the investor, synchronously implementing solutions to speed up progress.
The project is divided into 7 construction packages, currently 4/7 packages are under construction, the volume reaches about 36% of the contract value. The remaining 3 packages will be implemented after the competent authority approves the adjustment of the total project investment, expected to be submitted for approval in the fourth quarter of 2025. According to the plan, the project will be completed in 2027.
For the Project to renovate and expand 5 key traffic intersections in Can Tho City (with a total investment of 1,196 billion VND, from the state budget), the Ninh Kieu Area Construction Investment Project Management Board started construction of Intersection No. 1 (Mau Than - 3 Thang 2 - Tran Hung Dao) on March 10, 2025; started construction of Intersection No. 4 (Nguyen Van Linh - 3 Thang 2) on April 3, 2025.
At the same time, the design and construction drawings of Intersection No. 2 (Mau Than - Nguyen Van Cu - Vo Van Kiet) and Intersection No. 3 (Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Van Cu) were approved; the selection of a contractor for construction at Intersection No. 2 was organized; and the inventory of architectural objects at Intersection No. 2 and Intersection No. 3 was carried out.
In addition to the above projects, Mr. Mai Van Tan also informed: The East-West Economic Development Axis Project, Soc Trang Province (old), Provincial Road 926B Project, Hau Giang Province (old) connecting Quan Lo Phung Hiep route, Soc Trang Province (old); The project to renovate, upgrade, and connect the waterway and road traffic system of Provincial Road 925B and Nang Mau Canal, Hau Giang Province (old) is also one of the key projects that Can Tho City is focusing on accelerating the progress to soon complete and put into use, in order to connect areas of the city, creating momentum for sustainable development of local industry and agriculture.
