Working session between members of the UNESCO Non Nuoc Cao Bang Global Geopark Partnership Network and representatives of Van Long Ecotourism Service Cooperative, Gia Vien Commune (Ninh Binh)

In Ninh Binh province, the delegation learned about the operating model of Van Long Ecotourism Service Cooperative in Gia Vien commune. Through the discussion, members were able to access the organizational structure, management methods, inspection and supervision mechanisms as well as support policies from local authorities to help the cooperative operate effectively. They learned about environmental protection solutions being implemented at the cooperative such as: sorting waste at source, recycling organic waste, limiting the use of disposable plastics, developing organic agriculture and preserving native plant and animal varieties.

The survey team visited Van Long Eco-tourism Area and Bai Dinh Pagoda Heritage Site in Gia Vien Commune. The team learned about the management of tourism services, environmental sanitation, civilized behavior towards tourists and the participation of local people in tourism activities. Lessons learned from practice on service style, service space organization, souvenir product promotion and service quality control are important foundations for Geopark partners to apply locally.

In Thai Nguyen province, the delegation surveyed and studied at the Thai Hai Ethnic Ecological Stilt House Village Conservation Area, Tan Cuong Commune. The conservation area is operated by the community, with the goal of protecting and promoting the traditional cultural values of the Tay people such as stilt house architecture, indigenous knowledge, customs, handicrafts and ethnic cuisine associated with tourism development. In particular, the use of environmentally friendly materials, the organization of green - clean - beautiful living spaces, waste treatment at the source, along with a friendly and rustic style of welcoming visitors have created a unique identity, contributing to improving the quality of services and experiences for visitors.

At each survey site, the Geopark partners experienced typical services associated with cultural and natural heritage. These practical experiences provided insights into how to organize and operate tourism activities based on local identity, helping members better understand the harmonious combination between conservation and development. Through this, the working group had the opportunity to learn how to exploit the potential of indigenous medicinal resources, develop stilt house accommodation services, diversify traditional culinary products and build culturally-imprinted experiential tourism types - key factors in improving service quality and increasing livelihood value for the community.

The survey and learning program opens up opportunities for members of the Geopark Partnership Network to strengthen connections, share initiatives and coordinate the implementation of community-based tourism models, especially in supporting disadvantaged groups to participate in the tourism service chain through skills training, product consumption, destination promotion, and connection with traditional craft villages. Partners have more platforms to implement creative, effective tourism models suitable for local conditions, thereby contributing to promoting fair, responsible and sustainable tourism development in Cao Bang.
