VnExpressVnExpress16/05/2023

Khanh Hoa A 7-year-old girl was brought to the hospital by her family with abdominal pain and a needle in her urethra.

On May 16, the leader of Khanh Hoa General Hospital said that ultrasound and CT scan results showed that the 5cm long needle, with a round tip (the type of needle used to fix fabric when sewing), and a sharp tip pierced the wall of the baby's bladder.

The family said the child was at home with his grandmother and said a stranger came and gave him candy and then inserted a needle into his private parts. The family did not know who the stranger was or how the incident happened. They only found out when the child had a stomachache and took him to the hospital.

Doctors performed endoscopic surgery through the urethra into the bladder to remove the foreign object. Currently, the girl's health is stable and she is preparing to be discharged from the hospital.

Doctor Ton That Minh Thuyet, Department of General Surgery, Khanh Hoa General Hospital, said that if the baby had been admitted to the hospital late, the needle would have pierced the intestines, causing infection.

Doctors recommend that parents teach their children how to protect themselves and refuse contact with strangers. If the child shows any unusual health symptoms, they must be taken to a medical facility for examination.
