On the afternoon of September 14, Long Xuyen City Police (An Giang) prosecuted and temporarily detained: Duong Hong Thai (27 years old); Nguyen Thanh Vu (28 years old); Nguyen Thanh Thai (21 years old, both residing in An Giang); Nguyen Tan Thanh (26 years old, residing in Dong Nai); Hua Huynh Huong (26 years old, residing in Ho Chi Minh City); Thai Hong Thinh (24 years old, residing in Hau Giang ) for the crime of illegal arrest and detention.
In this group, Hong Thai, Tan Thanh and Huynh Huong were additionally prosecuted for the crime of Extortion.
Regarding the above two crimes, Long Xuyen City Police also banned Ho Thi Kim Thi (25 years old, residing in An Giang ) and Pham Quoc Khanh (17 years old, residing in Hau Giang) from leaving their place of residence.

Around May, Ho Thi Kim Thi lent Do Thi Trinh (31 years old, living in Quang Ngai) 15 million VND on the condition that the woman had to work for Thi at a karaoke bar in Can Tho .
After borrowing the money, Trinh did not keep his promise and did not pay back.
Around June, Thi and her husband Duong Hong Thai opened a karaoke bar in Long Xuyen City. Upon hearing the news, Trinh called Thai and asked to be a staff member.
On the evening of September 3, Thai went to Ho Chi Minh City to pick Trinh and his juniors up. On the car, Trinh borrowed another 24 million VND from Thai to transfer money to his friend's account.
After lending the money, Thai took Trinh to meet Thi at a karaoke bar in Long Xuyen city.
Thi asked Trinh to call his friend to return the 24 million VND he had borrowed from Thai. As for the previous 15 million VND, because he did not have the money to pay, Trinh was beaten by Thai's group including Thi, Thanh Thai, Vu, Thanh and Huong and then taken to a house in My Phuoc ward, Long Xuyen city.

Discovering that the victim intended to escape, the group continued to beat, shock, and threaten him with electric batons.
On the morning of September 6, Trinh went to the roof of the house on the 3rd floor, hung on a water pipe and continued to escape but unfortunately fell to the ground and was injured. The victim was taken to An Giang Central General Hospital for emergency treatment and reported to the ward police.
