Waiting for the improvement of U.23 Vietnam

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên12/09/2023

U.23 Vietnam defeated U.23 Guam (6-0) and U.23 Yemen (1-0) to become the second team to participate in the U.23 Asian Cup finals, after the host Qatar. The positive side of these matches is that although they did not play up to expectations, coach Philippe Troussier's players still knew how to win 3 points. Thanks to winning all the first 2 matches, U.23 Vietnam can enter the final match with U.23 Singapore with a comfortable mindset.

Regarding the overall tactics and performance of each player, Coach Troussier could not be satisfied. U.23 Vietnam controlled the ball, pressed the opponent, but lacked the "coolness" and alertness to turn the time of ball control into opportunities or goals.

Mr. Troussier compared that in the same situation, the Brazilian team only needed 2 attempts to score, while the Vietnamese team sometimes needed up to 10 attempts to shake the opponent's net. The difference is that the players still lacked both technique and football thinking.

In the youth arena, each match is a step towards maturity. The youth team from the Lion Island disappointed when they lost heavily to U.23 Yemen and drew with U.23 Guam. U.23 Singapore lacked discipline and spirit in both matches. Compared to the 32nd SEA Games, coach Nazri Nasir's team is an even weaker version.

No longer under pressure to achieve results, Coach Troussier can use "group 2" in this match with Dinh Bac, Van Khang, Vi Hao, Minh Khoa, Van Toan... These are potential faces, but need to be given more time on the field to prove their class. A U.23 Vietnam with new players and a new look in the match against U.23 Singapore will bring a positive signal towards the U.23 Asia final round.
