Husbands who are 'closer' to their wives live longer

Japanese researchers surveyed and reviewed health data of 21,000 people, including 8,500 men - mostly in their 60s - over seven years, according to the Daily Mail.

Of these, 82% of men said they were more interested in being "close" to their wives. Those who were less interested were mostly older, had diabetes and were less happy.

And 79% of women are more interested in sex. Those who are frigid are also more likely to be older, and they are more likely to be divorced.

Intimacy has many benefits, including reduced stress levels, reduced inflammation, and improved mood.

During 7 years of follow-up, 503 deaths were recorded.

The results, after adjusting for body mass index, age, marital status and other factors, showed that husbands who were more interested in sex with their wives had a 69% lower risk of early death during the study period, according to the Daily Mail.

Researchers believe low desire is a sign of poor overall health — such as poor diet, obesity or other chronic diseases.

A healthy sex life has long been seen as a sign of positive physical and mental health, and experts still encourage couples to have regular sex.

The study's lead author, Dr Kaori Sakurada, a medical expert at Yamagata University, said: The husband's lack of interest in sex could be due to an unhealthy lifestyle.

In the study, these people included smokers and some with diabetes. Furthermore... this apathy can affect many factors such as inflammation, hormones and immune responses.
