Mr. Miguel Díaz-Canel became the first Cuban President to visit Iran in 22 years, since the visit of the late Cuban leader Fidel Castro in May 2001. After bilateral talks, the leaders of the two countries co-chaired a meeting of high-level delegations, observed the signing of agreements and memorandums of understanding, and attended a press conference.

Last June, Iranian President Seyed Ebrahim Raisi paid an official visit to Cuba, and the two countries signed six cooperation documents.

Cuba and Iran have maintained diplomatic relations since August 8, 1979. Over the past four decades, the two countries have signed numerous agreements in areas such as biotechnology, nanotechnology, pharmaceutical industry and food safety.

Earlier, during his official visit to Qatar, the Cuban President held talks with Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al-Tahin, as well as met with about 30 Qatari businessmen and Cuban medical collaborators in this Arab country.

The Emir of Qatar said that the Cuban President’s visit was an opportunity for dialogue to strengthen economic relations. For his part, the Cuban President expressed satisfaction with the results achieved during the visit, which contributed to further deepening bilateral political and diplomatic relations, while diversifying and expanding economic, trade and cooperation relations.
