Immediately after the controversial kiss with female player Jenni Hermoso during the ceremony to award the 2023 World Cup trophy to the Spanish women's team, RFEF President Luis Rubiales spoke out: "We just showed normal affection. We are champions and that's all I care about. Ignore the stupid protesters."

However, Mr. Luis Rubiales's outburst has sparked even more criticism. Many officials in Spain said that Mr. Luis Rubiales' actions were unacceptable and demanded that he apologize and consider resigning.

The incident caused a lot of impact on the celebration of the 2023 World Cup championship of the Spanish women's team, held on August 21 after the whole team returned home.

RFEF President Luis Rubiales had to give in on the same day, apologizing in a clip posted on the Spanish football authority's social media account. "There is one thing I regret very much. That is what happened between me and a player, a player with whom I have a great relationship. I have done the same with other players. I have to admit that I made a mistake because, in a moment of extreme excitement, there was no bad intention on either side, as what happened. However, it caused a lot of unnecessary trouble," said Mr. Luis Rubiales.

"It seems that people have been hurt by this and I have to apologize, there is no other choice. This is an unforgettable experience for me. I understand that, as president of an important organization like the RFEF, you have to act carefully in public, especially at important ceremonies like the recent one," Mr. Luis Rubiales shared.

RFEF President Luis Rubiales also apologised to those he called "stupid protesters". "I also want to apologise to these people, because I understand that if the situation is seen differently from outsiders, they will certainly have their reasons for that," added Luis Rubiales.

The head of Spain's football authority also regretted that his incident "tainted in some way" the day the team celebrated their World Cup victory. This is Spain's second World Cup, after the men's team won the 2010 World Cup.
