In a friendly and open atmosphere, President Vo Van Thuong and the Austrian President announced the important results of the talks; agreed on cooperation orientations and measures to promote the traditional relationship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Austria.

Speaking at the press conference, Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen said the two sides discussed many issues to promote comprehensive cooperation in various fields. The President emphasized that Vietnam is an important trade partner of Austria in Asia and ASEAN, a large market and an attractive investment destination for Austrian businesses. Austria has dozens of businesses operating in Vietnam with a total investment of about 500 million euros.

However, the two sides still have much potential to continue cooperation in the coming period to bring more practical results. In addition, Vietnam and Austria also carry out many cooperation activities in dual training, preferential loans and cooperation between the two countries ' foreign ministries according to the recently signed memorandum of understanding.

President Alexander Van der Bellen emphasized that Vietnam is an important partner of the European Union (EU). In particular, the Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), after being signed and coming into effect, has made an important contribution to promoting economic and trade cooperation between Vietnam and the EU in general, and between Vietnam and Austria in particular.

In addition, Vietnam and the EU also have cooperation programs and projects in the fields of climate change response, environmental protection, human rights dialogue, etc. The two sides also coordinate well in multilateral international forums, sharing the same interest in promoting multilateral cooperation and resolving conflicts based on the principle of compliance with international law.

Enhance mutual understanding and trust

Speaking at the press conference, President Vo Van Thuong said that after more than 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations, the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Austria are developing well and dynamically.

Austria is always among the top 10 export markets of Vietnam in Europe. Vietnam is an important trade partner of Austria in Southeast Asia. Cooperation in other fields such as culture, education, science and technology has developed substantially and effectively.

The President expressed his belief that this visit to Austria will create new momentum, enhance mutual understanding and trust, and lay a foundation for the relationship between Vietnam and Austria to develop strongly in the future.

The President said that the two sides have agreed on measures to further promote the Vietnam-Austria relationship in the coming period in all areas from politics, foreign affairs; trade and investment cooperation; culture, sports, tourism; science - technology and people-to-people exchange. Sharing about regional and international issues, the President emphasized that Vietnam pursues an independent, self-reliant, diversified and multilateral foreign policy. Vietnam wants to be a friend and reliable partner of all countries, and an active and responsible member of the international community.

The President said: "We all want to resolve all conflicts in the region and in the world on the basis of respecting the United Nations Charter and international law."

At the press conference, regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the two leaders said that the two sides agreed to support resolving the conflict by peaceful means, on the basis of respecting the United Nations Charter and international law.
