As Tien Phong reported, at the VFF Executive Committee meeting in March, the clubs agreed that the number of foreign players each V-League team could register was 4, and a maximum of 3 players could be used per match. However, recently, 7 teams including Nam Dinh Blue Steel, Hanoi FC, CAHN, The Cong Viettel... have requested the VFF and VPF to increase the number of foreign players allowed to play per match to 4.

The reason given by the teams is that the cost of hiring foreign players is expensive and if they are not used, it will be a waste. After receiving documents from the clubs, VPF has compiled a report and sent it to VFF for consideration.

However, today, some teams suddenly changed their minds. Accordingly, these clubs asked VFF to keep the number of foreign players playing each match at 3 as per the old regulations. One team also asked VFF to create conditions for Vietnamese players to compete and gain experience to serve the Vietnam national team.

Speaking to Tien Phong, a VFF leader said that the issue of using naturalized players in the Vietnam national team or foreign players in the V-League needs to be considered in terms of its impact on the long-term development of football. Therefore, the number of foreign players each club can use as well as how many naturalized players the Vietnam national team should use must be carefully calculated.

“Because of this issue, we have previously set a limit on the number of foreign players that can be registered and played on the field. For teams participating in international tournaments, we have also had a support and encouragement mechanism. Of course, depending on the changes and development of Vietnamese football, we may have to adjust the regulations at any time to ensure long-term development,” he said.

Most of the teams in V-League rely on the "backbone" of strong foreign players. Top teams such as Nam Dinh, CAHN, The Cong Viettel ... often have the conditions to buy high-quality foreign players.
