The General Statistics Office has just announced the economic situation in July and the first 7 months of this year. The consumer price index (CPI) in July increased by 0.11% compared to the previous month and increased by 2.13% compared to December 2024. Compared to the same period in 2024, this index increased by 3.19%.
On average, in the first 7 months of the year, CPI increased by 3.26% compared to the same period in 2024. Core inflation increased by 3.18%.
In the 0.11% increase in CPI in July compared to the previous month, there were 9 groups of goods and services with increased price indexes and 2 groups of goods and services with decreased price indexes.
Specifically, the housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials group increased by 0.36% (increasing the overall CPI by 0.07 percentage points). The price index of this group increased mainly due to the increase in prices of some items such as the price of housing maintenance materials (up 1.96%), household electricity price (up 1.82%); and kerosene price (up 2.64%).

The beverage and tobacco group increased by 0.25% due to high consumer demand during the summer and increased production costs. The culture, entertainment and tourism group increased by 0.2%. Of which, the price of tickets to rent sports venues increased by 0.34%; TV and internet fees increased by 0.32%.
The food and catering services group increased by 0.18% (causing the overall CPI to increase by 0.06 percentage points). Of which, food decreased by 0.16%; foodstuff increased by 0.15%; eating out increased by 0.39%.
Household equipment and appliances group increased by 0.10%. Garment, hats, and footwear group increased by 0.06%.
The group of medicines and medical services increased by 0.03% due to the increase in exchange rate affecting the cost of importing pharmaceuticals and raw materials. The education group increased slightly by 0.01%.
On the other hand, the price index of two groups of goods and services decreased, including the postal and telecommunications group, down 0.15%. The transportation group decreased 0.48% (causing the overall CPI to decrease by 0.05 percentage points). Of which, the gasoline price index decreased 1.5% due to the impact of domestic gasoline price adjustments closely following world market developments.
The General Statistics Office also said that some groups of goods had sharp price increases, such as passenger transport prices by rail, up 10.08%. Passenger transport by air, up 5.43%. Passenger transport by water, up 0.21%. Passenger transport by road, up 0.15% due to high travel demand during the summer.
