TPO – The Center for Conservation of Wildlife in Vietnam (SVW) in collaboration with Cuc Phuong National Park successfully received and rescued two rare Javan pangolins from Binh Dinh and Quang Tri provinces, discovered by local people and reported to the authorities.
Previously, a resident in Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province discovered a mother and child pangolin in a hollow of a tree trunk right behind his house. Upon discovery, the resident brought the two pangolins into his house for temporary care, then reported to the Forest Protection Department of Tien Phuoc District, Quy Nhon City to hand over the animals to the authorities.

On September 22, a resident of Dong Ha City, Quang Tri Province also voluntarily handed over a pangolin to the Cam Lo - Dong Ha City Forest Protection Department. This resident said that while traveling on the road, he picked up a sack containing a pangolin. Knowing that this was a rare and endangered wild animal, he contacted and handed it over to the authorities.

After receiving the report and request to receive animals from two authorities in Binh Dinh and Quang Tri, SVW's rapid response team quickly set off to the rescue points to care for and receive the animals.
In Binh Dinh, a baby pangolin died before the rescue team arrived due to premature birth and exhaustion. The remaining two pangolins were thin, dehydrated, and had several wounds on their tails and under their scales. These two were brought to the Rescue Center for health care.

Java pangolin is known as a rare animal, distributed in Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia. In Vietnam, Java pangolin is distributed in Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien - Hue, Quang Nam , Da Nang, Kontum, Gia Lai, Tay Ninh and Binh Phuoc.
In recent years, the Javan pangolin has become a cross-border trade item and is classified as endangered in the Vietnam Red Book and the Red Book of the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
