In the past two years, many households have increased their durian acreage. According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh, village 10, Truong Xuan commune, Dak Song district, this year her family planted 6 hectares of new durian. She is currently taking care of the garden to create momentum for the garden to grow and develop well. She hopes that when the time comes to harvest, the durian garden will bring high income.
According to many experts, durian is bringing high economic efficiency. However, durian growers need to anticipate challenges such as the impact of climate change, epidemics, oversupply... which will reduce the value of this crop.
As someone who has been growing durian for more than 20 years, Mr. Bui Quoc Viet, Phu Xuan village, Dak Nia commune, Gia Nghia city, said that this crop also contains many risks.
He currently has 11 hectares of durian. According to Mr. Viet, this is a crop that requires quite high techniques and is affected by climate in almost all processes from flowering, fruit setting, ripening, and harvesting.
Therefore, if farmers do not master the techniques and cannot predict the weather correctly, they can easily face great risks, lose all durian output and suffer great losses.
According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the province's fruit trees have increased sharply in area in recent years. Specifically, by 2023, the province's fruit tree area will reach over 24,400 hectares, with an output of 123,000 tons.
This area has exceeded the province's orientation by 2030 by about 19,000 hectares. Compared to 2018, the fruit tree area increased by over 17,200 hectares, and the output increased by over 83,500 tons.
Mr. Pham Tuan Anh, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, recommends that farmers, businesses, and cooperatives should not massively expand the area of fruit trees.
The province is building concentrated fruit tree production areas with uniform quality and large scale in suitable climate and soil areas.
From there, it facilitates links and cooperation with investors to create a large output of fruit to serve the domestic market as well as export.
