On the morning of March 13, the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Training Center (SEAMEO RETRAC) and the Regional English Language Office (RELO) of the US Embassy in Hanoi and the US Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City jointly organized the launching ceremony of the English Career Project (EnglishWorks!) 2024.

EnglishWorks! is a program managed, coordinated and implemented by SEAMEO RETRAC with the participation of 10 partner units which are universities and colleges across the country. This is an important educational project, contributing to the development of high-quality human resources in Vietnam, according to Dr. Ho Thanh My Phuong, Director of SEAMEO RETRAC.

Specifically, the program targets disadvantaged youth who are studying or are studying engineering, working or unemployed; have aspirations to excel in their studies and have the potential to contribute to the socio -economic development of the locality. Partner units are responsible for recruiting students and ensuring certain criteria. Successful students will be fully sponsored for tuition and learning materials.

According to Dr. Phuong, the project aims to improve the English skills needed in the process of finding a job or starting a business for young people, with a focus on STEM education (science, technology, engineering, mathematics). In addition, EnglishWorks! also focuses on training and improving leadership skills and critical thinking for students.

"EnglishWorks! is an educational cooperation program that contributes to improving the capacity of young workers, especially in the fields of engineering, science and semiconductor technology in the context of digital transformation, artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology and high technology developing rapidly," said Ms. Phuong, adding that each school does not recruit more than 30 students per class and each class is implemented from 6 months to 1 year depending on the unit.
